Curve Model Portfolio: Keeley
Curve Model Portfolio
I had the pleasure to meet and photograph Keely Harlow’s curve model portfolio; a new face to the Curve division of MSA Models. She and I had and awesome time shooting her Natural Portrait Session! Keeley is originally from Minneapolis but recently made the move to NYC and signed with MSA. I love meeting and working with new faces because I get to see how their development goes and I am one of the first New York photographers they get to work with.
Keeley is absolutely stunning and she moves so well in front of the camera. She’s already booked some clients and has appeared a few times on Amazon Live! Since this was one of her first shoots, we wanted to keep everything simple and natural. Keeley and I looked through some of brands and I styled her with clothes from H&M and Forever 21 Plus along with her late Father’s army jacket.
Keeley’s shoot was actually split into 2 days. I don’t normally do this but for our original shoot day I had bad weather judgement. I met up with her at her agency and we took a few shots on the agency’s rooftop however we were soon met with crazy rain and I decided that I needed to reschedule. I was lucky that we both had the luxury of time that week. I’m usually really fortunate with warding off rain for shoots and I try to push through as much as possible but some days I really cannot control the weather.
Keeley has the most beautiful curly hair – so for our first shot she kept it curly but when we met up for the rain date, she straightened it and gave it an awesome curl. Our Shoot 2.0 has much better weather; a nice breeze and lots of light!
Tip For Photographers:
Don’t be afraid to shoot at different times of the day! With my schedule, I’m not always able to pick the time of my shoots. I’m not one of those photographers who can ONLY shoot during the “Magic Hour.” While I love shooting with the magical, soft light right before sunset; it’s not ALWAYS going to be there. I shot these photos during the worst part of the day – HIGH NOON. For me to get the images lit for my style, I put my clients in shade and open shade and use reflectors and natural reflectors (white walls & sidewalks can be your lighting BFF). I’ve actually started to LOVE shooting when the light is out and bright because it gives me lots of light to play with shadows and highlights in my work. It’s pushed me to develop more style and experiment.
I really enjoy shooting curves and have shot a lot of beautiful curvy models in the past year. The “curve” or “plus” model industry offers a variety of shapes and sizes of gorgeous women! My approach to a curve model portfolio is the same that I would approach a straight-sized model or any of my portrait/headshot clients. I direct them to pose and move in ways that best flatter their body, make them feel comfortable and to truly capture the essence of who they are.
Part of shooting Keeley’s curve model portfolio was to capture the beauty of her face. In my Natural Portrait Sessions, I offer a variety of lightly edited, natural light photos so that everyone can have images to use in portfolios, social media, etc. While one photo may be a killer headshot, there are images that would work great for instagram posts; they may not make a book, but offer additional IG content which is also important.
This last series of images show off Keeley’s BEAUTIFUL face! We shot these toward the end and I couldn’t stop photographing the range of emotion she was giving me. I was really impressed with seeing how much Keeley had opened up and performed throughout the entire shoot. Big things coming her way!
